History of the Pow Wow |
The Last Chance Community Pow Wow Committee (LCCPW), a grassroots organization in Helena, Montana, was formed in 1998 to create awareness and understanding of the Native American culture. The Committee basically started out of deep respect of our Indian culture and a strong desire to share our culture and traditions with relatives, friends, and local residents through a community pow wow celebration.
The objectives of the LCCPW Committee are to:
| Share the Indian culture with the greater Helena community. | ||
| Provide a forum for the gathering of friends and family in celebration. | ||
| Provide an opportunity for urban Indian children to participate in a pow wow, thereby, increasing awareness and pride in their culture. | ||
| Establish a venue for Indian artists to exhibit their works and demonstrate traditional teachings. | ||
| Provide opportunities for health education and outreach to Indian people. |
Native Culture and Traditions Shared |
Come and experience the Native traditions for three days in the Valley of the Sleeping Giant with dancing, singing, feasting, and visiting. You will truly enjoy the dancing of Native dancers from Montana, Idaho, Colorado, Washington, and Canada. Intertribal dancing means everybody can dance! You can participate and learn the different dances of the Native people. There is also the opportunity to enjoy our famous Indian tacos and fry bread. And, vendors of different talents come to share their beautiful arts and crafts. This event is free and open to the public. Come celebrate with us the fourth weekend in September at the Helena Civic Center.
